Saturday, over 200 bikers from all over the globe descended upon Choctaw County for the third race in the Mississippi Gravel Cup.
The race, which has been ongoing for several years, brings bike enthusiasts to Choctaw County to not only take in the beauty of the county while biking our gravel roads, but it’s also an economic boost for not only Choctaw County, but for Sturgis also as both Ackerman and Sturgis and the Fulcher and Reform communities served as base for the race route.
Friday night, in a video by organizers there had to be a change in the route, because the original route infringed on the National Forest Service Land.
So, after reworking, those on the 25-mile route, turned off Highway onto Dido Road, and went from Dido Road to Wood Road to Airy Road and ended on East Hunt Road.
The 50 and 100 mile routes follow a route similar to the 25 mile route, but it went from College Street to Highway 12 to Dido Road to Sand Creek Road, to Weeks Road crossed into Oktibbeha County on Ardenna Road up Sturgis-Maben Road to New Light Road to Sturgis-West Point Road to Big Creek Road to Reform Road back to Sturgis-Maben Road to Church Street in Sturgis to Louisville Road/Sturgis-West Point Road, crossing back into Choctaw County on Hunt Road to East Hunt Road coming back into Ackerman.
