My 15-foot sunflower is growing like crazy and so is my tomato! I've mentioned before I've never had a green thumb. Water seems to keep them from going limp! It also helps to have a friend or two who keep the water coming when I can't.
It is (AAPI) Asian Heritage month and food comes to mind. Isn't it amazing that “Chinese food" most of us eat is Americanized, not true Chinese food? That doesn't mean none is, but the differences might shock us.
People have their family recipes, however, that are growing more available. Consider Vietnamese food. How do we learn about other cultures? One way was the coming of the first Filipino Muppet onto Sesame Street this past year.
Food, dance, sports, all ways to define culture but not all there is. Do not confine yourself to those categories, be sure to read writers, see films, learn languages, test history, and see how people were treated. Learn about the Japanese incarceration, Chinese railroad builders, get to know someone who defines themselves as Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese, Islanders, Koreans, folks from India or many of the other wonderful cultures within the broad term Asian.
Also learn how a person prefers to be referred to. Very important.
BLESSINGS.
