The year is passing yet I do hope you are still in the middle of your twelve days of Christmas!? Even so some will already have your decorations down. What? There are many days...at least until Epiphany (coming of the wise men following the great Star) because the feast of Christmas is so massive, we need days to take it all in.
Part of what I love is the coming of the Light. After Dec.21 comes that light as the longest night passes, the light breaks through. No, we don't notice it right away but before we know it bingo, spring!
Light comes to us in various ways besides directly from the sun or stars. I think of light when I consider how we treat one another. Wars, executions, inconvenient abortions, and other aspects of death dealing roll light right out of sight, right out of our hearts. Instead, when we take care of each other we have the opportunity to bring out the light.
St. Mother Teresa once said, "if our words don't bring light, they contribute to darkness." How simple you say, but during winter (and these many seasons) folks can be stressed and there are frequently arguments, difficult discussions, and pain.
So as the light begins to return, and as this year passes, be the light of generosity, hope, and peace for one another. Contribute to light rather than darkness and as 2024 rolls our way, let us learn to receive light from others and let us pray that we find in our hearts light we can share.
