"Be joyful always, pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances..." (1 Thessalonians 5).
Christmas is ever so close and last week at our Girlfriends’ party several folks got socks for prizes. I love socks, those with stripes or merged colors. I like those that blink and those of a quieter nature. I love the warm ones and those cut very low for summer. I added a reindeer pair to my collection!
This week we celebrate joy as the virtue in advent to be reminded of the joy the coming of Jesus brings. And who will you be the joy of Jesus for this week, that meal to a shut in, a new pair of socks to cheer the heart and warm the feet, or who will you pray for? Joy fills the scriptures and poets and writers remind us that God is our joy even if this was a season of distress. "O Joy that seeks me through pain, I cannot close my heart to Thee; I trace the rainbow through the rain and feel the promise is not in vain, that morn shall tearless be." (George Matheson)
As we move toward the great feast of Incarnation let us be reminded, we need to be filled as St. Bernard of Clairvaux reminds us "Jesus, thou joy of loving hearts! Thou fount of life! Thou light of all! From the best bliss that earth imparts, we turn unfilled to Thee again." So, as you decorate don't forget to hang those socks to be filled with treasures and surprises bringing joy and shared smiles. Let that heart of yours be filled too with the joy salvation brings.
BLESSINGS.
