WRITEON FOR JULY 27, 2022
I was so happy to read that Amanda is our new Chamber leader. Go girl!
You might like to know that on July 26, 1990, the Americans with Disabilities Act became law. July 30 we celebrate two important things: in 1881 Smedley Butler, a Marine general was born in PA … he has been revered by the ‘common soldier’ because he spoke out against US imperialism and militarism. Also on this day in 1965, Pres. LBJ signed into law Medicare and Medicaid to provide low-cost hospitalization and medical insurance for the elderly, disabled and poor. How has that worked out?
#8 of the hearings concluded with that dismal feeling deep inside that still the whole tale has not been told. I also watched Capitol Punishment … showing some of the misery of those peaceful folks caught up in an organized mess. We push on for the truth.
One of my highlights this week was that one of the sweet po plants flowered even in this heat ... 2 lovely purple ones ... I’ve rooted so many and never once has one flowered ... brought me joy!
Mary Sarton in her book of Collected Poems writes:
“I thought of happiness, how it is woven out of the silence in the empty house each day and how it is not sudden, and it is not given but is creation itself like the growth of a tree…for what is happiness but growth in peace … ?” (the Work of Happiness)
What are the little joys and happiness’ that surround you? Midst the war in the Ukraine where children, women, and men are being crushed by power and greed, where the other wars rage on the planet, and people are starving for love and food … we still have to grow in peace right where we are…and that’s how we contribute to transforming the world. Dr. Seuss in the Lorax reminds us:
“Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.”
Stay cool.
BLESSINGS.
