It was so great to see the flying mortar boards and hear of the many scholarships around! Years of study and difficulties as well as great fun and excitement fill those years and now on to the next level!
Consider, however, those who often get lost in the shuffle -- teachers!
African American once mayor of Los Angeles commented in his book My Soul Looks Back that it was indeed a teacher who made all the difference. "A loving caring teacher took a liking to me. She noticed potential and wanted to help shape it.
There are lots of special teachers but more than that, teachers are special people. We can remember at some point a teacher who either helped or hindered us. We can look in gratitude on the former and feel a bit sorry for the latter. Teachers by and large want to help, to educate, to challenge... To bring joy, hope, and a future.
In Us author Sharon Creech's tale Walk Two Moons her character tells of the teacher Mr. Birkway. "...was one of those energetic teachers who loved his subject half to death and leaped around the room dramatically, waving his arms and clutching his chest and whomping people on the back."
Maybe you are a retired teacher with a little less energy...but thanx for all those years and students...some you may never hear from but received your challenges. None of us get anywhere alone and often it is that adult who step in and makes things better. Our onetime neighbor Oprah said this: "For every one of us that succeeds, it's because there's somebody there to show you the way out. The light doesn't necessarily have to be on your family; for me it was teachers and school."
ConGRADuation to all the many graduates at every level. Give us what you've got, teach us what you've learned and go on, go on...there's always more. Be sure to thank a teacher along the way.
BLESSINGS.
