The curfew which has been in place in Louisville for the past several weeks was allowed to expire after the Aldermen meeting on Tuesday, July 19.
Mayor Will Hill issued the following statement concerning the curfew: "The City of Louisville leaders and law enforcement believe the curfew has been an effective and useful tool to create a safer Louisville. The message should be loud and clear not only from Louisville leaders and law enforcement, but the residents of Louisville that we desire and are committed to living in a city that is safe and quiet where our residents can peacefully rest at night. The midnight prowling, crime, gunshots, and unnecessary noise is not welcomed nor will it be tolerated. We believe that law-abiding citizens should not be punished by the behavior of a few, and I want to thank the citizens of Louisville for their patience, thank you to all law enforcement for their efforts, and thank you for the cooperation of the courts to assist in making Louisville a safer place to live, work, play, and rest. We hope to not return to a curfew, but if necessary we are committed to doing what is in the best interest of public safety in our great city we call home."
