It is cold outside and it is winter, so we read "One Winter's Day at the Maben Public Library on Jan. 5." This is a story about a hedgehog who is very generous.
It has some unusual animals that the children are not familiar with. It has a badger, an otter, field mice and deer.
The hedgehog lost his nest in a strong storm. He is on his way to Badger's house where he wants to stay. He meets several of the animals and they are cold from the storm and snow. He first shares his hat with a family of field mice. Then he meets the otter whose hands are freezing so he shares with him his mittens. There was a baby deer who was shivering so he shared his scarf with him.
So when he got to badger's house, he was cold. Badger made him a cup of tea and when he got warm, he went sound asleep. So if you know someone who is cold and you have extra to share, be generous like hedgehog.
The children enjoyed making crayon-resist snowflakes that they painted blue after drawing and sprinkled salt for snow. They also cut snowflakes and had lots of practice with scissors. Shaving cream was the most fun and messy but messes can be cleaned up.
Last Friday we had Tyler Kay Bates, Barrett Willers, Elisheva, Seth and Ian Barrett, and Kylie Joy Vaughan.
