Maben Library had its final Summer Reading Program on July 18.
Tommy Terrific came and did a terrific job (pun intended). He used our Ocean theme to do tricks that kept the children as well as the adults laughing.
The Oceanic Guidebook was a guide to all his tricks. The children could see what he was supposed to do while reading the book.
He also told ocean facts such as 70% of the earth is water, over 3 million shipwrecks are in the ocean, the Great Barrier Reef in Australia is so big it can be seen from space, the blue whale is the largest animal, even larger than a dinosaur, and the ocean is littered with garbage that covers over a million square miles.
The coolest trick that I liked was the sandcastle. It looked like they were not mixing with the water and were just staying dry, and then he turned over the bucket and there was a beautiful sandcastle with the three different colors separated. I think the children loved them all.
Thanks to all who came and supported the library this summer. Even though the programs are over for this year, you can still read. It is very beneficial for children to read a little each day. School will be easier if they are good readers.
We had an average attendance of 45 children each week and almost that many adults. We gave away lots of prizes, some just for coming, some for reading and some for reading the most. Keep a check on the Maben Library page on Facebook to find out when our story time starts back. I hope to see all of you back at the library to check out books!
