Winston County is a place where the community comes together to help one another in times of need. This takes place throughout the county, and age is no limit when it comes to helping another.
At Louisville High School, the faculty and the student body have come together multiple times this year to give support to one of their own – Davian Caldwell.
Davian learned last spring that he had cancer, and the teachers, coaches, and students of LHS have since rallied around Caldwell.
The FCCLA organization discussed hosting a fundraiser for Davian earlier this school year. Ms. Barbara Haynes, the FCCLA sponsor and Davian’s teacher, asked the club if they would like to do something for Davian. They responded with enthusiasm, deciding to host an “I’ve Got Five on It” fundraiser for Caldwell.
In the past, the FCCLA has utilized this project to raise funds to go to the organization’s national convention.
When the students decided they wanted to help Davian, Ms. Haynes went to Mr. Turner, the principal. He not only signed off on the project, but he said he would back the event in any way he could. The fundraiser was a “huge success,” according to LHS staff.
The football team wanted to further support “Red,” as Davian is known on campus. This involved Coach Shorter utilizing his contacts to garner some neat NFL jerseys, shirts, and hats – some of them signed by Bryce Young and other NFL standouts – for Davian. The Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, and the Tennessee Titans.
This memorabilia was presented to Caldwell on October 13.
