Ralph Thomas, a longtime employee of the Louisville Street Department, was honored by the Louisville Board of Aldermen, during a regular meeting held on Tuesday, September 20. The Board unanimously adopted a resolution honoring Thomas for more than 22 years of service with the City of Louisville, his employment having begun in July 2000.
Thomas officially retired in August of this year.
The Board dealt with several other issues, including giving the authorization to proceed with the necessary actions to establish a K-9 Unit within the Louisville Police Department. In dealing with Airport items, the Board voted 5-0 to authorize Mayor Will Hill to sign an FAA maintenance agreement contract for the Precision Approach lights (PAPIs) and to authorize payment to Clearwater Consultants, for professional services in the AIP Grant project, in the amount of $9.5K.
The Board voted 5-0 to approve Herbert Bennett & Brendan G. Mills as new hires in Solid Waste, at a rate of $13/hour, effective September 26. The Board also approved transferring Preston Foster, from the Street Department to Landfill, and Dalton Anthony, from Parks and Recreation to the Street Department.
In other action, the Board:
•Voted 5-0 to approve the addition of Shaston Coleman and Preston Foster to the phone list, $50/monthly each, effective Oct. 1, 2022.
•Voted 5-0 to acknowledge receipt of $1K to Louisville Fire Department from State Farm for October Fire Prevention Efforts.
•Voted 5-0 to acknowledge Kayla Rogers' attendance at the Municipal Court Clerks 2022 Training Course in Oxford, September 21-23, at no cost to the city.
•Voted 5-0 to approve payment to Mississippi Municipal Workers Comp, $84.6K yearly premium, two installments of $28.7K, and one installment of $27K.
•Voted 5-0 to accept the recommendation of the Zoning Board to allow Main Street Holdings (Jeremy and Heather Cummins) to operate a bed and breakfast at 16923 East Main Street, Louisville.
•Voted 5-0 to acknowledge receipt of $3.6K from the Department of Public Safety, as reimbursement for Zaevious Henderson's training.
