In a regular meeting of the Louisville Board of Aldermen on Tuesday, October 4, the Board unanimously adopted a resolution honoring Mitzie Ann Metts Taylor, who passed away Sept. 26.
The resolution stated that Taylor was "active in the life of Louisville, Mississippi, for over eight decades and in addition to her love for her Lord and her family, she was committed to church, community, and the company, whereby she exemplified the watch words of the family and the company; Faith, Vision, & Work."
The resolution further stated that the family company, Taylor Machine Works, "is synonymous with the City of Louisville's economic vitality over the past century; therefore, the City of Louisville is eternally thankful for the long standing commitment to our community and the countless lives positively affected by The Taylor Group of Companies and The Taylor Family."
In other business, under Capital & Recovery Projects, Mayor Will Hill reported that on Monday, Sept. 26, he prepared to send a letter to FEMA requesting final inspection on PW-104, which consists of 12 projects in the works since 2014. PW-104 was put into place to deal with recovery from the April 2014 tornado.
In airport business, the Board voted 5-0 to approve payment to Burns Dirt in the amount of $55.8K on the 2020 AIP Supplemental Runway Reconstruction Grant.
In Fire Department business,
•The Board voted 5-0 to authorize payment to Santander for the 2nd annual payment of $20K for fire equipment.
•LFD Chief Robert Hutto announced that hydrant testing began on Monday, October 3.
In Parks & Recreation, the Board:
•Voted 5-0 to authorize payment to Musco Finance in the amount of $55.5K for park lighting.
•Voted 5-0 authorize purchase of all-purpose flooring to be used in the multi- purpose building at Ivy Park from Infinity Volleyball in Ridgeland for $30K.
In Police Department business,
•Chief Sean Holdiness introduced Sgt. David Elliot.
•The Board voted 5-0 to approve payment to Webster County Sheriff's Office in the amount of $1.25K for the purchase of an American Aluminum K9 Vehicle Insert.
In Solid Waste Business, the Board:
•Voted 5-0 to acknowledge an agreement between the City and the Town of Noxapater for garbage pickup.
•Voted 5-0 to authorize payment to Itawamba County for a garbage truck in the amount of $50K.
In other business, the Board:
•Voted 5-0 to approve the hire of part-time employee, Tanya McKnight, at animal control effective October 6 at a pay rate of $10/hour.
•Voted 5-0 to approve the hire of Harry Owens as a part-time employee at the Street Department effective October 6 at a pay rate of $12/hour.
•Voted 5-0 to approve a new agreement between the City and Chiquita Long Holmes at a rate of $500/month.
•Voted 5-0 to declare the City of Louisville Halloween observance and citywide Trunk 'n Treat on Saturday, October 29.
•Voted 5-0 to approve Docket of Claims, #11805-12159, in the amount of $166.2K. The Louisville Board of Aldermen meets on the first and third Tuesday of each month at 5:30 p.m.
