Local artist, educator and community supporter, Glendia Cooper has once again been recognized for her outstanding contributions in the field of art education. Although now a resident in the state of Mississippi, Ms. Cooper still maintains her connections with the state of Florida.
This past Fall at the Florida Art Education Association Conference, Ms. Cooper received an award for Lifetime Achievement. This award recognizes individuals who, in longstanding, have made great contributions to the field of art education. The award recognized her for her many years as an art educator in the classroom as well as an individual who has worked with art educators throughout the state of Florida.
The Annual FAEA Awards Celebration was held during a breakfast at the Hotel Marriott at Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra, Florida. She was one of twelve individuals and organizations being recognized for their contributions to art education.
This was not Ms. Cooper’s first recognition as an outstanding art educator. In 2003 while in a position at the Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens, she was recognized as Museum Educator of the Year for the state of Florida. In 2010, she received the Greater Jacksonville Cultural Council Award as Art Educator of the Year. In 2013, she received the Florida Art Education Association Award as the Florida Art Educator of the Year. Lastly, 2018 provided another opportunity for Ms. Cooper to be recognized in the category of Career Service Award.
