Tuesday, April 9, was the regularly scheduled board meeting for the trustees of the Louisville Municipal School District, but the night would offer something special for nine students and their families.
Mr. Ronnie Ware would kick off the meeting with an invocation and the pledge of allegiance. Immediately, the board members would approve a few measures, including the consent agenda and the previous month’s minutes. Next, the valedictorian and salutatorian as well as the STAR student from each school would be announced.
Louisville High School introduced its top honor students initially. Counselor Rachel Stevens introduced the students, noting their activities and their positive impact on the school. The valedictorian for LHS is Cameron Ingram, and Ivy Greer is the Salutatorian. The valedictorian boasts the highest GPA for grades 9 -12, while the salutatorian possesses the second highest GPA. Up next, Ms. Stevens honored the STAR student, who garners the highest ACT score among his or her peers. This year’s STAR student is Kara Higgason. Higgason would then introduce the STAR teacher, Ms. Holly Haimes.
Each student was presented with a trophy denoting their accomplishments.
Next up, Ms. Suzanne Cain, principal of Nanih Waiya schools, introduced her top students. The valedictorian at NWHS for 2024 is Presley Kratzer, while the Salutatorian is Emma Patterson. Cain enthusiastically shared how these students are highly active in most every club available at NWHS. She then introduced NWHS’ STAR student, Carli Stokes. Stokes then introduced her STAR teacher, Ms. Courtnee Hynes.
Mrs. Gina Smith was on tap to introduce the honor students at Noxapater. This year’s Valedictorian is Taylor Hamilton. The Salutatorian is Kaliyah Moore. Smith noted that both the top graduates are not only high academic achievers, but that “if there is a club or sport at NHS, they are involved – and usually in a leadership position.” Smith then introduced the STAR student, Kaleigh Larson, who would tap Ms. Kimberlyn Mullins as her STAR teacher.
Both Cain and Smith noted that 88 percent of their 2024 graduates are honor students.
With that, the board would congratulate these students on their achievements and the meeting would proceed as usual.
In other business matters, the LMSD Board of trustees would:
•Approve multiple hiring recommendations
•Approve the claims docket
•Approve bank balances and financial statements
•Approve new sixteenth section leases and amend one current lease
•Hear the superintendent’s report
The board meets monthly at the LMSD Central Office located on Columbus Avenue.
