The Winston County Board of Supervisors kicked off the month of September with its bi-monthly meeting on Tuesday. In addition to reviewing the current emergency declaration, the board completed multiple business matters. One of these issues included approving the reauthorization of Ben Kirk to the Louisville-Winston County Airport Authority Board.
Kirk is on his second five-year term with the Airport Board. He revealed that one of the biggest priorities the board is working on has to do with cleaning, clearing and the future seeding of property that adjoins the airport. Kirk is a former agricultural pilot, with approximately 55 years of piloting experience. Kirk is licensed in seven states, including Idaho, Iowa, and neighboring states such as Georgia and Alabama. He retired from professional flying just two years ago. Kirk’s experience has been commended by both the state and federal government. In 2014, the Federal Aviation Administration awarded Kirk its coveted Master Pilot title. Kirk was the first Mississippian to achieve this honor, and he was the first full-time crop duster pilot to do so. The state legislature also crafted a proclamation to honor Kirk for his experience.
Kirk has served in some capacity with the Airport Board for approximately 30 years.
Kirk also pointed out that the Louisville Airport Airshow will take place on October 14, 2023. This event will bring people from all over the world; recently, a young man from Germany came to take part.
