A wise individual once said, “Freedom is never free.” As Americans, we live in one of the most privileged places on earth. We generally move freely, traveling to work and play as we see fit. Our students have the freedom to choose from a wide array of career options. We might not agree with others’ opinions on politics or religion, but in America, we are also free to share how we feel without fear of retribution.
These are only a few of the freedoms we enjoy here in the U.S.A. We may practice our religious beliefs openly. We can protest an injustice; we can join a workers’ union and strike if we believe it is necessary.
However, we should note that we have these freedoms because of the brave men and women who sacrificed so that we could stand in a picket line, attend the church of our choice, and travel without restrictions.
Every November, our country has set aside a day to formally thank veterans for their service. This year, the Louisville Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a local event; the Pilot Club will be providing breakfast at 8:00 AM. The program will be held at the Louisville safe room (the “Dome”) – it begins at 10:00 AM after the breakfast. While the program is open to the public, the breakfast is exclusively for veterans.
This year’s speaker is Bro. Mike Dowd, who is a Vietnam veteran. Bobby Bowman, the county’s veteran officer, will recognize Winston County veterans. Larry Veazey, Billy Metts, and SFC Brad Hodge are all a part of the program highlights.
The Fair Elementary Melody Makers will provide entertainment during the breakfast. The Melody Makers are under the direction of Mark Goldbeck.
