French Camp's next Historical Highlight luncheon will be Thursday, Feb. 8 at noon. The topic will be "The Mecklin Collection," which is a small collection of books written by or about people who have lived in French Camp. This collection is housed in the Meckin Room, the Living Stones Building of French Camp Presbyterian Church.
It includes the historical records of several local churches, as well as a number of genealogical books compiled by local historian Margie Gilmer. It also contains books written by and about former pastors of the Presbyterian church and works by contemporary authors, FCA staff and students. Some books will be useful for research, others focus on history, poetry, and various special interests.
At present, this is not a circulating library, since most of the collection is made up of unique and "one of a kind" volumes. Anyone interested in access to this material is welcome to come and read, or do research on site. We would love to hear from anyone in the French Camp community who has access to books written by or about people who have lived in French Camp that can be added to the collection.
Next month's luncheon will be March 14. The speaker will be Norman Ford of Florence, MS who is a 1955 FCA Graduate. His topic will be "Memorable Snapshots and Lasting Impressions."
Historical Highlight Luncheons are held on the 2nd Thursday of each month at French Camp Presbyterian Church. Each month features a speaker who shares some aspect of French Camp's history.
A delicious, home-cooked meal is served for a $3 donation. The public is invited. RSVP for the luncheon by contacting Mary Nell Coblentz at marynellcoblentz@gmail.com or 662-547-6520 (leave a message).
