A Winston County woman has written her first series of books, available for purchase on Amazon centered around her five-year-old son, Caleb.
LaShontrei “Tia” Henton recently released “My Variety Child.”
In the synopsis on Amazon, it says “My Variety Child, A Caleb Book Series, is a three-in-one book about an autistic boy named Nicholas "Caleb". The first story in the series, My Variety Child, is an introduction into Caleb's world as he shares the unique traits of himself and his family. The second story in the series, Therefore, I Love You, is a heart-warming story about the unbreakable bond between a mother and son as they spend fun times together. The third book, Mommy, Mommy, It's Your Bedtime, is a funny story about how Caleb tries to take care of his Mommy. Will Caleb's Night, Night surprise for Mommy turn out as planned?”
“Therefore, I Love You is cute and sweet,” Henton said. She said “Mommy, Mommy, putting me to bed” details their routine for bedtime.
Henton said her son is autistic and is a mixed-race child and she began writing down things that Caleb would do.
“During the pandemic, I found the notes and I thought about turning them into a book,” she said. Henton said after getting encouragement from her grandmother, who’s also an author, she went for it.
“Before she passed, she told me ‘You should do this, you have amazing ideas,’” Henton said. But she said after the passing of her grandmother, she placed it on the backburner. But, decided to go for it, publishing the series on December 31, 2022. She’s published through LateBloom Publishing, a local publishing company.
Henton said it’s the first three books in a nine-book series. She said she hopes to put out her second series this year.
She said the first series focuses on Caleb’s life from three to now five and the second series will focus on his life from five on and it will be his adventures with his cousin, who’s seven.
“It’s all the things he’s learning how to do,” she said.
Henton said she’ll have copies on hand for anyone who wants one locally and will also be going to a book festival in Jackson later this year.
“I hope when they purchase the books that it makes them smile,” she said. Henton said she encourages people to try things that they’ve wanted to try.
“Do things they never thought they’d do. Never know what the outcome is going to be,” she said.
