On Friday, April 22, South Louisville Baptist Church was the location of the annual Grace Christian School Senior Luncheon. Seniors and their parents met in the Family Life Center of the church, where they were greeted by beautiful décor and a delicious meal.
Ms. Aline Haynes, along with Margaret Taylor, Katherine Crowder, Ginger Christopher, Linda Hudson, and Maria Ramirez, sponsored the event. Ms. Haynes catered the event, and she helped to coordinate two speakers: Jacob Drury and Reverend Clifton Haynes.
The luncheon started as a “house party” for seniors when Ms. Haynes’ daughter was a senior at GCS. In 2012, the party involved the students, a few teachers (typically the students’ favorite teachers), the GCS principal, and the class moms. Haynes revealed that, at the time, there were only six in the graduating class. Since then, she revealed with a smile, the size of the senior class has “outgrown her house,” so, South Louisville Baptist Church warmly opened its doors for the senior luncheon.
Haynes revealed that, since she’s been doing the luncheon, 2024’s class is “the largest it’s been.”
She also noted that after the first few luncheons were held, moms and some grandparents of former students came on board to help host the event. “It’s been great for the students,” she added.
Haynes and her crew had the Family Life Center decked out in royal blue and white, school colors of GCS. A buffet-style meal, with vegetables, chicken, and dessert as well as two long tables decorated with Viburnum (commonly called the “snowball bush”), fine china, and a centerpiece with each senior’s portrait. Haynes had each senior take a picture with his or her parents.
Grace Christian School will host its formal graduation on Saturday, May 4.
