This past Saturday, the Friends of Dean Park and Louisville High School held a Back-to-School Celebration at the Dome in Louisville with very special guest speakers, Doctors Jeremy and Jermaine Hogstrom. The Hogstrom twins are the sons of current Louisville Municipal School District Board Member Jacqueline Steele.
The Hogstroms were born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, but spent many vacations and holidays in Louisville with their grandmother, Dorothy Hardin-Steele. Since an early age, the twins wanted to become doctors and following high school attended the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga, then the College of Osteopathic Medicine at Auburn University. The Hogstroms have only recently completed their residency at the Wayne County Health Authority in Detroit, Michigan, and will begin their practice in their hometown of Chattanooga in September at CHI Memorial Internal Medicine Associates.
The Drs. Hogstrom spoke to a large gathering about the effort required to be successful and that failure can be seen as an opportunity, pointing out various famous public figures who had to overcome obstacles. The twins have amassed a large group of TikTok followers and serve as an inspiration to them.
In addition to the Hogstrom twins, Dr. Alex Brooks and Medical Assistant Mary Brooks of OnyxCare in Jackson were on hand to administer COVID vaccines to youth and adults at no cost. Later in the day, Dr. Brooks was scheduled to give a demonstration on how to properly use a COVID home test.
Free food and refreshments were provided by Walmart #183 of Louisville thanks to Manager Matt Wisecup and volunteer employees. Packages containing masks, hand sanitizers, and COVID home tests were distributed while supplies lasted, and attendees were given the opportunity to become members of Friends of Dean Park. Funds from the event will benefit a high tunnel for community gardening and the farmers’ market.
