An early-morning fire destroyed a family’s house in Webster County last week.
Deputy Fire Coordinator Tom Booth said the Mathiston Fire Department was dispatched to the structure fire on Sand Hill Road at 3:34 a.m. Dec. 26. Sandhill Road runs south of Bland Road and is just west of Stallings Road.
“When fire personnel arrived on scene, the structure was totally destroyed and not much fire noted,” Booth stated.
He said the homeowner on scene upon the fire department’s arrival advised the family came home, found the structure destroyed and called 911.
Fire personnel contacted the Webster County fire investigator and remained on scene until his arrival, according to Booth.
This was the second house fire that occurred around Christmastime in the county. The other happened Dec. 23 on Lewis Road and was also a total loss. The person who lived there was not home at the time.
