The cause of a weekend house fire in Webster County remains under investigation.
Cumberland and Mathiston volunteer fire departments were dispatched to the fire in the 2800 block of Lewis Road at 2:38 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 23. Lewis Road runs west of Holland Road between Spring Creek and Lollars Grove roads.
Fire department units arrived to find a single-family wood structure fully engulfed with fire, according to Deputy Fire Coordinator Tom Booth.
He said fire personnel conducted an attack with two handlines to bring the fire under control. Fire departments remained on scene for about two hours before completely extinguishing the fire.
The structure was a total loss and no one was at home at the time of the fire, said Booth. Fire units from Walthall, Eupora and Tomnolen assisted Cumberland and Mathiston.
