Choctaw County Extension Service Director Darrell Banks updated the board of what they’ve been doing. Banks said they’ve been working with their 4-H club and the work they’ve been doing this year. The club recently held its award ceremony at the Sherwood Community Center.
Banks said they’re working to restart the Choctaw County Cattlemen’s Club, a farmer’s market where county producers can sell their produce.
He said they’re also monitoring the drought situation and any funding that may be applicable to Choctaw County growers.
“We want to thank you for all that the board has done for us. And if there’s anything that Brenda [Swindol] and I can do please let us know,” Banks said.
He said their goal is to better Choctaw County and to better the youth.
Banks said the Choctaw County Master Gardeners will also help the courthouse with the flower beds that are in the front.
“It’ll save some money and we can find some plants that can come back every year, cut down on spending on plants,” Banks said.
He said the Master Gardeners and ASPIRE maintain the planters on Main Street in Ackerman and could do the same with the flower beds in front oof the courthouse.
Supervisor Betty Bruce asked about the flower bed at Broken Wings, Banks said they could maintain that one as well.
He said one of the main goals is to work with the schools.
