MABEN — The Maben Home and Garden Club is delighted to choose the home of Chris and Nancy Stolf as the Yard of the Month for May.
Driving to the home off Douglastown Road one is greeted by a panorama view of this charming home and surrounding landscape. The first thing one sees is the back of an enchanting little building that has become Nancy's special shed. It is attractively planted with hydrangeas that are just coming back to life after the damagingly icy cold season Mississippi has suffered this past winter.
Many of us are dealing with dead camellia and gardenia plants, but much has survived the terrible single-digit freeze we experienced in December. The window box above the hydrangeas at the rear of the shed has been planted with three large decorative cabbages. The front of the shed is decorated with Nancy's special flare.
The shed's entrance porch and doorway have colorful eye-catching details. Nearby are windchimes and a hanging blue glass teardrop.
Driving on around to the main house one immediately notices the hanging baskets of ferns and colorful blooming plants. The front door is flanked by two old coach lights that illuminate the one-piece vintage wooden school desk piled with all sorts of interesting objects next to the front door. An upholstered chair in bright colors, many pots of various plants and a wrought-iron lantern also grace the walkway.
Not pictured is a wrought-iron bench beside a large tree with pots of plants all around and a large blue garden globe near it. To the right side of the house is another large tree with a hanging basket of pink petunias. A small maple tree is just putting on its reddish-orange leaves, and the flag seems to add a welcoming note to this enchanting landscape.
The sunny side yard has many other attractive vistas. The lawn chairs seem to invite visitors to stop and sit a spell and enjoy the calm, pleasing scenery that meets the eye at every glance.
The Maben Home and Garden Club celebrates this lovely example of a beautiful and decorative yard.
