The Friends of Dean Park invites the community to participate in its quarterly Beautification Day to be held this Saturday, April 6 from 9 AM to 2 PM at the park.
The Friends have sponsored this event, taking place every three months, for a number of years, with the only exception being during the pandemic. The organization utilizes this event to not only keep the park clean, but they also offer the ability for school-aged participants to earn community service hours. These hours often evolve into a valuable commodity as many schools require them when considering incoming students for scholarships.
“We pride ourselves in sponsoring this event, which has helped many students get community service hours for scholarships and college applications. Also, master gardeners get certification hours. We hope the community appreciates our hard work and will come out to participate in helping to keep Dean Park beautiful,” said FODP President Elmetra Patterson.
Patterson also noted that participants should know that bringing a plant and the garden tool of one’s choice is helpful in getting a great deal of work done. This year, the FODP is hoping to plant several marigolds or dwarf roses. However, participants may bring a plant of their choice to donate.
Refreshments will be provided by the local Walmart.
