Each year the Old Choctaw Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution sponsors the DAR Good Citizens Award and Essay Contest. This essay contest is intended to encourage and reward the qualities of good citizenship.
This award recognizes and rewards individuals who possess good citizenship qualities of dependability, service, leadership and patriotism in their homes, schools and communities.
Students participating write a 500-word essay on qualities of good citizenship. A winner is chosen and reads their essay at a meeting of the local chapter.
The award is money to go toward further education following their graduation from high school.
This year’s winner is Orin Gray, son of April and Matthew Gray. Appreciation is expressed for the help of the Eupora High School counselor, Spencer Austin, and to Cynthia Wilson, local chapter chair.
