Webster County’s unemployment rate decreased eight-tenths of a percentage point during March, according to preliminary numbers from the Mississippi Department of Employment Security.
Webster County’s unemployment rate stood at 3.4% during March, compared to 4.2% (revised) in February and 6.2% in March 2021. This March’s percentage unemployment tied for the most recent lowest rate, which was the same in November December.
The estimated number of unemployed Webster Countians in March decreased by 30 to 140. The labor force, which is made up of everyone who has a job or is looking for one, increased by 30 to an estimated 4,040.
MDES statistics from 1990 forward show the county’s highest unemployment rate for March came in 2002, when it reached 16%. This March’s 3.4% was the lowest rate for that period. The 12-month moving average is 4.8%.
March jobless rates in adjoining counties: Calhoun, 3.3%; Chickasaw, 3.6%; Choctaw, 3.2%; Clay, 4.2%; Grenada, 3.1%; Montgomery, 3.9%; and Oktibbeha, 3.4%. Mississippi’s unemployment rate for March was 3.5% and the national jobless rate was 3.8%, both seasonally unadjusted.
