In the September 8 meeting of the Choctaw County Board of Supervisors, the following officers and members were present: Joey Stephenson, District 1 supervisor and board president (attended via telephone); Greg Fondren, District 2 supervisor; Chris McIntire, District 3 supervisor and board vice president; John Shumaker, District 4 supervisor; and Betty Bruce, District 5 supervisor.
Following a motion made by John Shumaker to approve the agenda and a second by Greg Fondren, the board conducted the following business:
--A motion was made by John Shumaker to order the clerk to payoff the 2018 patrol car of Drug Court in the amount of $5,776.72 by means of a pay warrant. The motion was seconded by Greg Fondren and unanimously approved.
--A motion was made by Betty Bruce to approve travel and expenses for Morgan Bridges to attend training with Mississippi Standards and Training at the earliest opportunity of their schedule. The motion was seconded by Chris McIntire and unanimously approved.
--A motion was made by Chris McIntire to amend the agenda for the meeting with the addition of the Solid Waste Department. The motion was seconded by John Shumaker and unanimously approved.
--A motion was made by Chris McIntire to change the pay rate of Cory Burton, as department head of the Solid Waste Shop, with an increase of $1.00/hour as of September 16. The motion was seconded by Betty Bruce and unanimously approved.
--A motion was made by Joey Stephenson to set the Millage rate as presented totaling 80.84 Mills as the previous year, adopt the new budget as presented, and authorize the advertisement of both approvals. The motion was seconded by John Shumaker, and the board voted by majority in support, with Supervisor Greg Fondren voting against.
--A motion was made by Chris McIntire to amend the current budget to actual as of Sept. 30, 2022, at 5 p.m. The motion was seconded by Joey Stephenson and approved by the board.
The new operating budget as approved by the board consists of three primary millage changes — one being for Fire Protection from .53 Mills up to 1.07 Mills, another being for the Choctaw School District Maintenance Fund, down from 39.40 Mills to stand now at 38.90 Mills; and lastly, for the Choctaw County School District Bond Notes, down to .33 Mills from .37 Mills.
In other business, a motion was made by Chris McIntire to find and decree that upon the plea of Ashley Mosely for a felony Count of Counts that the board herby terminates her employment. The motion was seconded by John Shumaker and unanimously approved.
A motion was made by Chris McIntire to recess the September 2022 term until Monday, September 19 at 9 a.m. The motion was seconded by John Shumaker and unanimously approved. The meeting will be reported in the next Choctaw Plaindealer.
