On Wednesday, August 17, the Winston-Choctaw County Regional Correctional Facility received its score for the latest accreditation audit. The audit was performed by the American Corrections Association audit team comprised of Fred Campbell, Norma Gillom, and Clare Armstrong-Seward.
The audit team members each discussed the different areas that were evaluated, and the fact that they spoke with staff and inmates and reported no negative feedback was recorded from either group.
The team looked at various areas such as living conditions, recreation, food services, medical services, religious services, sanitation, and more, and gave the facility the highest marks in all areas.
The WCCRCF undergoes an accreditation audit every three years, and in the closing of the audit ceremony, Campbell announced the facility had scored 100% in both mandatory and non-mandatory standards.
There were 64 mandatory standards, but only 51 applied to WCCRCF, and Campbell explained that failure in any one of these standards meant failure on the entire audit. Of 509 non-mandatory standards, only 399 applied.
The audit team spoke very highly of all staff members and the obvious good work that is being done at the facility. Warden Neal Higgason, who was overseeing his last audit, stated they have a lot of good people working at WCCRCF. He will retire on August 31.
