The Choctaw County Sheriff’s Department, the Choctaw County Justice Court, and the Clean Team, owned by Ramae Allen and Makala Cummings, partnered together to ensure deserving children in the county would feel the joy of Christmas when they awakened Christmas Day.
The department and the Clean Team held a toy drive Thursday, December 22 at the Choctaw County Justice Court.
Allen said they collaborated with the guidance counselors from Ackerman Elementary, Weir Elementary and French Camp Elementary to choose the students.
“They chose 60 boys and 60 girls,” Allen said. The children were chosen from Pre-K to sixth grade. She said the children were given certificates in order to participate, and they had to bring their certificate to the toy drive to receive a toy.
Allen said they then enlisted the help of the community for toy donations. As families began to pour in, children were able to choose from toys, hats and gloves. There was a raffle for a bicycle and a bumper car.
Children were also treated to hot chocolate, snacks, and were even able to take pictures with “Santa Sheriff” Sheriff Brandon Busby.
Because there were toys left over, the department was also able to go around the community and give out toys.
The CCSO, Justice Court and the Clean Team plan to make this a yearly event.
