Josh Glasner, career coach at Eupora High School, presented a program to the Eupora Rotary Club on March 5.
The career coaching program aims to provide job training education to students. The statewide program is run by the workforce development office, Accelerate Mississippi.
Glasner is one of two career coaches the Three Rivers Planning and Development District has placed in the Webster County School District. The other is Laci Knight at East Webster High School.
Career coaches help students develop a game plan for life and connect them to a rewarding career. They help prepare students for that next level in life, no matter the pathway. Whether they plan on attending college, joining a branch of the military or learning a trade, they can help them make plans for a successful future.
The three goals of the program are to:
1) expose through career assessments, career fairs, guest speakers, industry tours and college tours;
2) prepare through soft skills, mock interviews, resumes and financial literacy;
3) connect through job shadows, internships, college applications, FAFSA applications and job applications.
The ultimate goal is to enroll, enlist and employ. This includes working with economic developers to make sure training programs align with workforce needs and meeting with local employers to help students get work experience.
Glasner said the program’s primary focus is seniors but that he also meets with juniors.
