Once again, the JW Young/Molly Estes Park in Noxapater saw yet another Caperton reunion. This family reunion has been happening in Noxapater for the last 83 years and will be held yet again next year at the same place. The reunion is held every year on the first Sunday, following Labor Day.
Attendance has declined over recent years, and this year was no different. There was a total of 27 people at the reunion that saw as many as 140 or more participants in past years. But they still celebrate the youngest, the oldest and remember those who are no longer with them. This year the youngest participant was the son of Bradon and Laura (Hilliard) Womble of Starkville. Whit who is nine (9) months old received a start to a prosperous future in the form of $50 which is given each year to the youngest participant. While the oldest participant does not get a monetary gift they are given a flower arrangement from Philly Flowers and Gifts in Philadelphia. This year’s oldest participant was Ms. Carolyn (Caperton) Mills of Louisville, MS who is 94 years young. Thankfully there was not a lot of loss in attendance due to death, but there was one who will always be remembered. Ms. Carolyn’s sister Peggy had a daughter, Ms. Sharron Kaye Stokes, who passed away at the age of 68 years. After everyone was reunited with old and new acquaintances, Ms. Mills said grace and some of the most wonderful culinary dishes were thoroughly enjoyed by all.
