The Winston County Farmer's Market allows small farmers to sell locally grown produce. This non-profit entity has helped small farmers maintain their homesteads and contributed thousands of dollars to the local economy for over fifteen years. The Winston County Farmer's Market also provides families with healthy food choices.
Mississippi has been declared one of the most obese states in America. The Winston County Farmer's Market management team is committed to combating chronic diseases impacting our families. For this reason, the Winston County Farmer's Market hosted "Buck Day" on Friday, July 28, 2023. About twenty-five local children came to shop at the market. They we each given $10 in Farmer's Market Bucks to purchase their own fresh fruits and vegetables.
Prior to their shopping experience, the children we also instructed by Louisville Fire Chief, Robert Hutto, on bicycle safety and the importance of a proper fitting helmet. Bicycle helmets were donated by MSDR. Sandra Jackson of Winston County Extension Office was also present to inform children on healthy eating habits.
