The Winston County Board of Supervisors opened the month of November with multiple business items that required attention prior to the end of the calendar year. This included acknowledging and accepting reports regarding inventory and tax rolls.
However, one of the biggest announcements to come out of Monday’s meeting is that of a county-wide burn ban.
The state of Mississippi is in a state of drought. According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, part of Winston County is considered to be in “severe drought” while the other half is in an “extreme drought.” The supervisors were informed that Winston County is currently at -11 inches below the average rainfall amount.
Announcements were promptly made via social media that this burn ban includes the city of Louisville as well as all communities within the borders of the county. There are only slight rain chances for the upcoming weekend.
