After a couple of days of delay, North Ann Street between Drain Road and King Circle has been closed for repair of both bridges that cross the Yockanookany River and its relief.
Chief Dillion Cates said during the Town of Weir Board Meeting, on Tuesday, that Monday when the Mississippi Department of Transportation came into town they were supposed to close the bridge then, but workers had “Road Work Ahead signs” instead of road closure signs.
He said Tuesday, they forgot the barricades, and the road was actually closed on Wednesday.
“And he said it’s not a typo, the bridge will be closed until August 2025. He said if everything goes as planned, it could be sooner but the opening date is set for August 2025.
This means that all traffic will be directed to Bruce Street [Highway 413] via Highway 12.
Public Works Director Barry Joe Miller said he heard it may be sooner than anticipated.
Also, the Weir Beautification Committee is planning a clean-up day. Alderman Doug Atkinson said Weir’s farmer market is planned for the second and fourth Saturdays in May and the clean up day could happen the first weekend in May.
Residents are encouraged to join in with the Beautification Committee to clean up their neighborhoods and the town.
The board also discussed sending Billy Murphy another letter to clean up the building at the Corner of Ann Street and Front Street.
