Although people are preparing for family and a day of thanks – and a little shopping too, The Towns of Weir, French Camp and the Choctaw County Library are preparing for Christmas.
The Town of French Camp kicks off the season with the lighting of downtown French Camp and Barlow Blue.
On Dec 2, French Camp will host Christmas in French Camp. The town will have a full afternoon, beginning at 1 p.m. of Christmas events for the family to enjoy.
French Camp will have a festival, reminiscent of the annual festival the City of Canton throws every year, on a smaller scale.
This event is the second year that French Camp has held the event and grows more and more.
French Camp will have a nativety scene that will display the true meaning of Christmas throughout French Camp’s historic district. Children will be able to paint ornaments at Children of God Pottery Studio, there will be Cookies with Mrs. Claus at French Camp Bed and Breakfast. Children can complete a gingerbread trail for prizes.
Here’s to hoping your children have been more nice than naughty as Santa Claus will be in French Camp and children will be able to take free pictures with him on the porch at Council House Restaurant.
There will be rides through the historic district and downtown loop.
The mean one, Mr. Grinch, will make a stop at Barlow Blue from Whoville and will be available for pictures. Not only will the Grinch be there, children will be able to “Build-A-Bestie.”
There will be a bounce house and Guy’s Fish House of Vaiden will have their food truck available at French Camp Trading Post.
There will be cake walk, toy walk and a Brunswick Stew cooking at French Camp Baptist Church.
There will an arts festival in front of Council House, Christmas Karaoke at Barlow Blue.
At Council House, French Camp Academy will have free Christmas activities and games. There will be $.25 Christmas items at Double Blessing and free punch and cookies.
Children and adults will be able to “Guess the Christmas Movie,” and make free reindeer food at Sparkles of H & M and the night will be kicked off with a free Christmas movie at Barlow Blue, beginning at 5:15 p.m.

On December 5, the Friends of the Library will hold its annual event complete with the Choctaw County Singers, a festival of trees decorated by different businesses. Those who attend will be able to vote for their favorite tree.
On December 7, the Choctaw County Partnership along with the Town of Ackerman will host the Choctaw County Christmas Parade. This year’s theme is “Christmas Around the World.”
And on December 9, the Town of Weir will host its annual Christmas Parade. This year’s theme will be “Mardi Gras in Weir.”
