Circuit Clerk Amy Burdine told the Choctaw County Board of Supervisors that District 3 Election Commissioner Dorothy Anderson had tenured her resignation, citing health issues.
Anderson’s resignation is effective December 15. Burdine said she spoke with Kyle Kirkpatrick with the Attorney General’s office, and he told her that the supervisors would have to appoint someone to serve the end of Anderson’s term.
Her term would expire in December 2023, and a new election commissioner would take office in January 2024.
Board President Joey Stephenson said that Supervisor Chris McIntire had someone in mind to recommend for the position. However, her name cannot be released because she has yet to accept the appointment.
“I don’t think he’s asked her yet,” Stephenson said.
Burdine told the board they would have to approve the appointment when they knew whether McIntire had asked her.
Also, the board heard from Sheriff Brandon Busby. He said two of his deputies were in two separate and unrelated accidents. He said his men were okay.
He said that one of his men was on a rural road in northern Choctaw County during the weather on Tuesday and went into a curve.
“The traction automatically came on, and he said the curve went one way, and the truck went the other way,” Busby told Supervisors.
“Is he okay?” Stephenson asked.
“Yeah, he’s fine. He didn’t want to go to the ER, but we made him go,” Busby said.
He said the airbags were deployed in the truck during the accident. Then, recently, Busby said one of his men was on Highway 9 when a wild boar came out in front of him. Busby said he hit the boar.
Supervisors asked Busby if he had enough vehicles in his fleet, while he had two out. Busby said they should be okay.
