With the reopening for filing for the 5th Circuit Court District position 2, the ballot filled up with 6 candidates.
The six candidates seeking the judicial post are: Bradley Clanton, Doug Crosby, Doug Evans, Alan Devo Lancaster, Zachary Madison and Kasey Burney Young. The 5th Circuit Court District includes Attala, Carroll, Choctaw, Grenada, Montgomery, Webster and Winston counties.
The incumbent, George Mitchell Jr., had previously been the only candidate to qualify for the post in question, but his April 19 death prompted Gov. Tate Reeves to re-open qualifying for that judicial post.
This second round of qualifying in this race ended on May 30.
The nonpartisan judicial elections will occur November 8. Circuit and Chancery court judges serve four-year terms.
