Grace Christian School students Julius and Robert Culwell spent 2021 traveling across several states with their three horses competing in the Open Division at various Palomino Horse Breeders of America (PHBA) horse shows. Despite competing against professional horse trainers, their perseverance paid off winning a total 12 Top Ten awards in the Open Division for the 2021 show season.
Riding his two horses, Hollywood NV ME and Famous N Fancy, older brother Julius won Top Ten awards in Senior Barrel Races, Flag Races, Pole Bending, Ranch Riding, Trail, and Ranch Trail.
Julius and his mare Hollywood NV ME were named Senior Flag Races Champion and placed overall 8th in Top Mares, 6th in Top Performance Horses, and 9th in Top Palomino Horses. Younger brother Robert riding his mare How D My Valentine won Top Ten titles in Senior Barrel Races, Flag Races, Pole Bending, and Performance Mares.
The horse-rider duo placed overall 6th in Top Mares, 7th in Top Performance Horses, and 8th in Top Palomino Horses.
The Culwell brothers will be recognized for all of their accomplishments in the show arena at the Open/Amateur Awards Banquet to be held this March at the PHBA Annual National Convention in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
In the meantime, the brothers and their horses are getting ready to start the 2022 show season in Mississippi at the Dixie Nationals Color Bonanza in Jackson, Mississippi.
The Heart of Dixie Palomino Exhibitors (HOPE) Association, the Mississippi Pinto Horse Association, and the Mississippi State University Eventing Team will be host their second Dixie Nationals combined horse and mule show at the Mississippi Fairgrounds January 20th through 23rd.
The four-day show will include a day of ranch horse classes and a day of mule and donkey classes. For more information about the show, individuals can refer to the HOPE Facebook page.
