Louisville, MS. – The Winston-Louisville Career and Technology Center (WLCTC) is enhancing the way local students learn about their technical courses through virtual reality. In a partnership with the Louisville Rotary Club, the WLCTC offers a virtual educational experience in which students are able to receive “hands on” training in their specific technical fields to supplement faculty instruction and course lectures.
“Technology continues to change the way we teach students especially from a technical perspective,” said Shane McDaniel, Director of the WLCTC. “Having access to the Lobaki virtual reality equipment and training modules enables our instructors to deliver their course work in creative ways and reduce barriers to student learning.”
The Lobaki Virtual Reality (VR) Technology is being tested on a trial basis in the classrooms this semester as faculty and students adapt to the new technology. The Louisville Rotary Club along with Rotary International is financing the equipment and technology as part of their mission to explore ways to improve educational and workforce development efforts in Winston County.
“The technology associated with virtual reality is positively disrupting the nature of training and education as we know it,” said John Fair, Treasurer of the Louisville Rotary Club. “VR is proven to be faster, easier, and cost effective for technical training and educational opportunities. The Louisville Rotary Club is proud to partner with the WLCTC and the Louisville Municipal School District in developing our local talent.”
As the school year comes to completion, the WLCTC and the Louisville Rotary Club are evaluating the impact of the Lobaki VR technologies. Both partners are in discussions on adding more VR equipment and virtual course modules for Fall 2024.
