A Webster County man remains in custody after being charged with aggravated assault following the shooting of a woman 1½ weeks ago.
The Webster County Sheriff's Office stated deputies responded to Whitt Road west of Eupora around 3:30 p.m. Sept. 18 in reference to a shooting that occurred at a residence
At the same time, deputies responded to North Mississippi Medical Center-Eupora, where a female victim was transported. Sheriff David Gore said the woman had been shot in the chest area with a 9mm handgun.
Deputies began an investigation and identified a suspect shortly after, according to Webster SO. David “Nick“ Knight, 23, was arrested that day and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The assault charge includes an enhancement for domestic violence.
Knight’s bond was set at $250,000 and he is being held at the Webster County Jail for a parole hearing with a hold from the Mississippi Department of Corrections. He is scheduled to appear in Webster County Justice Court this Friday. Jail records show Knight has been charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon at least two other times since August 2019.
The 36-year-old shooting victim was transferred to another hospital after being stabilized at NMMC-Eupora and remained hospitalized as of Sunday, according to social media posts. The Eupora Police Department was also involved in the investigation, the posts indicate.
