A convicted sex offender arrested last month on a felony charge in another county was later brought back to Webster County, where he is accused of failing to register as a sex offender.
As reported last week, the U.S. Marshal Service took Sammie Lee Crumble into custody on Jan. 26 on a charge of sexual battery. The Lee County Sheriff’s Department had issued a warrant for his arrest.
The LCSD said in a release that Crumble, 49, of Shannon is charged with committing sexual offenses on a minor in Lee County. His bond there was set at $250,000.
The agency stated he also had a warrant for his arrest in Webster County for failure to register as a sex offender. Crumble is on the Mississippi Sex Offender Registry because of a 2000 conviction of two counts of second-degree sexual abuse in Oregon.
Webster County Jail records show he was transported from Tupelo on Feb. 5 and booked into jail here that morning on a charge of sex offender registration failure. He posted a $5,000 bond later that day.
Crumble had an address in Walthall as of mid-November, according to the Sex Offender Registry.
