This past Sunday, agents with the US Marshal Task Force and MDOC SRT, apprehended Andrew Emerick, a state inmate who was being housed at the Choctaw County Jail, and who escaped on Wednesday, December 29.
Emerick was taken into custody in West Memphis, AR.
Emerick was assigned to the litter cleanup detail, working out of the work camp on the south side of the Choctaw County Jail. However, on the morning of December 29, the litter crew driver called in sick, and the litter crew was notified that they would not be going out.
Emerick was able to remove the clamps on a fence, near a post, using a pair of pliers to make his escape. He was not missed until that evening.
Sheriff Brandon Busby stated that he was aided by a female accomplice, whom Busby believes was able to smuggle a phone to Emerick on visitors day.
Emerick was located in West Memphis after the US Marshals and MDOC SRT began their search in Emerick's hometown of Abbeville, MS.
According to Busby, Emerick was about one year into a four-year sentence on drug charges, however the escape attempt will most certainly add time to his original sentence, and there will be charges against the female accomplice, as well.
Busby added that Emerick will have to be extradited, having been arrested in another state, but he expects him to waive extradition.
