The City of Louisville and the community have been rocked to its core after an almost month-long search for a missing Louisville teen ended after the body of Montevious Goss was found near the railroad tracks near the intersection of Railroad and South Church Avenue.
Wednesday morning, at press time, Louisville Chief Sean Holdiness said positive identification was made and confirmed that it is Goss.
And now, the police need the public’s help with any information into the continued investigation surrounding the events that led to Goss’s death.
Holdiness said they are awaiting autopsy reports and analysis made by the State Crime Lab in Pearl to rule whether foul play was involved in Goss’s death.
On Monday, Jan. 31, at around 1 p.m., railroad workers located a body in a wooded area, along the railroad tracks, across the street from Bennett's Do-It Center.
The young male, now identified as Goss, was wearing coveralls and white athletic shoes when he was found.
Goss, 16, was last seen on Wednesday morning, January 11, getting into a green Dodge pickup truck on Pearl Avenue. However, when he was reported missing, Goss reportedly wore a red Backwoods hoodie. His aunt and her boyfriend reported Goss missing on the evening of Thursday, Jan. 12.
Perkins added that the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation and the Crime Scene Unit from the Mississippi Crime Lab were called in to assist in the investigation, which is ongoing.
Perkins said no further details could be released at this time.
“Please be in prayer for our community. Multiple agencies are investigating the circumstances surrounding this tragedy. If you have any information regarding this incident, please contact the Louisville Police Department at 662-773-3511 or Winston County Crimestoppers at 662-773-9999,” Holdiness said.
Funeral arrangements for Goss are still being prepared as the family is working to cover costs. Goss’s aunt, Kiptima Hull, has started a GoFundMe page to cover the cost of funeral expenses. The family’s goal is to raise $10,000. As of press time, the family had raised $1,496 towards the cost of Goss’s final expenses. “Our beloved Montevious Goss was recently considered a missing child on January 11, 2023. He had been considered missing approximately three weeks before being discovered deceased on January 30, 2023. He was only 16 years old. Montevious was a wonderful son, brother, nephew, student, and friend who impacted the lives of many around him.
We are all devastated by the loss of Montevious and were not prepared for the high cost of a funeral service. Montevious was very young, and the family did consider insurance prior to his passing, but we would very much like to give Montevious the memorial he truly deserves, to honor his memory and say our final goodbyes,” Hull wrote.
“Please consider donating, as any amount will truly help our family during this difficult time. Thank you so much, and have a wonderful day. Kiptima Hull”
