As I was studying scriptures, I came across a very revealing verse in Matthew 5:20 “For I say unto you, that except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of Heaven.”
The Scribes and Pharisees of Jesus day were thought of by the Jews to be the most religious people. And while their outward behavior met the criteria, it was their inner attitude of the heart God desired. Today where do we stand? Are we still trying to obey the law with hearts that haven't changed?
Is our church visit to see friends and family or to worship a living God? Is our clothing and cars to draw attention to ourselves or God? Is the smile on your face genuine? Is your kind gestures from a surrendered heart? Galatians 6:7-8 says, “Be not decieved; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.”
