Clarence Albert Pierce
Clarence Albert Pierce, age 97, passed away on Sunday, January 11, 2026, at Vaiden Community Living Center in Vaiden, Mississippi.
Clarence was born on October 1, 1928, in Holmes County, Mississippi, to Clarence A. and Alice Herring Pierce. He received his B.A. in Education from the University of Mississippi in 1950. Clarence was a member of Grace Episcopal Church in Carrollton, Mississippi. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served his country during the Korean Conflict. Clarence was a teacher, a farmer, a member of the Masons, Sons of American Revolution, and the Mississippi Historical Society.
Clarence had a long career in the Mississippi State Legislature where he served in the Mississippi House of Representatives from 1952 to 1980. From 1958 – 1970 he was elected by the membership, Chairman of the Joint Committee on Interstate Cooperation. Clarence was Chairman of the Highway Finance Committee from 1970 – 1980. From 1977 – 1979, he was elected by the membership, Chairman of the Highway Southern States Committee on Transportation. Clarence was appointed by two governors to serve on the Southern Regional Education Board from 1977 – 1980. During the years 1964 - 1968, when the Mississippi House was not in session, Clarence served as a staff assistant for U.S. Senator James O. Eastland; from 1968 - 1972 he was an employee of the U.S. Senate. After leaving the legislature, Clarence served as Clerk of the U.S. District Court in the Southern District of Mississippi from 1981 – 1990.
Clarence was well known for his generosity and for his love for his church and community. He is survived by his sister, Carolyn Boggan from Tupelo, Mississippi. Clarence also leaves behind many family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence A. and Alice Herring Pierce and a sister, Emily Loviza.
Visitation to be held on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at Culpepper Funeral Home in Kosciusko, Mississippi, at 10:00 a.m. The funeral service, officiated by Bishop Duncan Gray III, will be at 11:00 a.m. at Culpepper Funeral Home Chapel in Kosciusko, Mississippi, with interment at Vaiden Cemetery in Vaiden, Mississippi.
Pallbearers will be John Boggan, Steve Boggan, W.P. (Bill) Brown III, Woods Eastland, Niles McNeel, and Clarence Pierce. Lifelong best friend, Tom Dulin, will serve as honorary pallbearer.
The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to the staff at Vaiden Community Living Center for the care Clarence received over the past two years.
