The city of Eupora is advertising for a new park director following the accidental death of the former director.
Rusty Bowen, who had served in the position for five years, died in a March 13 mowing accident at Gary Park. The Eupora Board of Aldermen discussed advertisement for the vacant position during a special-called meeting March 17.
Aldermen voted to advertise for the full-time position of park and recreation director in the next two issues of the Progress-Times, beginning today. The city is accepting applications until noon April 1. Applications, along with job description and areas of responsibility, are available at City Hall.
The applicant who is chosen will be hired through June 30 — rehiring of city employees is taken up at the first regular board meeting each July.
The board also voted to accept five volunteers to serve as interim park director at no cost to the city until a permanent director is hired. They are Clint Hester, Rin and Ashley Gary, and Matthew and Kristi Tedder.
Additionally, the board voted to table indefinitely the agenda item “Tilsatec — Fire code requirement.”
Aldermen Jerry Gary (at-large), Junior Shaw (Ward 1) and Junior Shaw (Ward 2) were present in addition to Mayor Lamar Dumas.
