WINONA – The Choctaw County boys and girls track teams both finished third out of five teams at the CrossRoads Relays hosted by Winona High School. Both teams won three events.
“I thought we had a really good day. I was proud of the effort,” said coach Jeff Roberts.
In the boys meet, Choctaw County had 64 points trailing Winona and Grenada, tied with 121. French Camp had 40 and Eupora 15. For girls, French Camp won with 135 points, followed by Grenada with 71, Choctaw County 55, Winona 44 and Eupora 14.
Omar Scott won two evens for the Choctaw County boys, the long jump with a leap of 19 feet 8½ inches and the triple jump (40-5). The other boys win was the 400 relay teams of Terence McNeal, Secatra Miller, Trenaevius Liggins and DeJuan Woods with a time of 47.46.
Scott also took third and Woods was fourth in the 100. Miller was third in the 300 hurdles, fourth in the high jump and seventh in the 110 hurdles, Woods was fourth in the 200, Kaleb Robinson and Jack Wilcher finished third and fourth in the shot put and Javontay Robinson was fourth in the 400.
For the girls, Jalia James won the 100 (14.32), Kami Beard the high jump (4-8) and N'Kia Belk the triple jump (29-0).
James was second in the long jump, third in the 300 hurdles and fourth in the 200, while Belk was third in the 200, fourth in the 300 hurdles and sixth in the long jump. Aniya Nash was second in the 400 and seventh in the 100, Terria Davis third in the discus and Adrianna O'Bryant fourth in the 400 and fifth in the 800.
“This is young group,” Roberts said, pointing out that there are only two seniors on the girls team and none for the boys. “That's a lot of ninth and tenth graders, plus a handful of 11th graders.”
Belk is one of the seniors. Scott and James are freshman and Beard is an eighth grader.
Choctaw County will compete at the 4-3A district meet Tuesday at Tishomingo County. The top four in each even will move on to a region meet.
