The qualification period for upcoming municipal elections came to a close Friday and saw four candidates file to run for mayor of Louisvlle.
Louisville Mayor Will Hill qualified to run for reelection as a Democrat. He will be challenged in that party’s primary on April 6 by Stacey Thames and Vardaman Eugene Traxler.
The winner of the Democratic primary will compete against Independent candidate Rion Young in the general election on June 8.
Aldermen Filers
These are the candidates in each ward who have qualified to run for the Louisville Board of Aldermen:
At-Large
With no incumbent candidate after Frances Ball’s death, three persons will be on the Democratic primary ballot. Roger Caperton, L.M. Claiborne, Jr and Ray Harrington will face off for the post.
Ward 1
Incumbent Drew Massey is unopposed for his second term in Ward 1. He qualified for the Democratic Primary but has no opponents.
Ward 2
Robert Brown and Cody Ming will face off in the Democratic Primary with the winner facing Russ C. Nowell, who qualified as a Republican, in the general election.
Present Ward 2 Alderwoman Judy McLeod is not seeking reelection.
Ward 3
Incumbent Gwenita Mays will face Jamie Eaves in the Democratic Primary.
Ward 4
Incumbent Eugene Crosby will face Charlie Miller in the Democratic Primary.
All Louisville city elections for each ward will be held at the Louisville Coliseum.
Noxapater Filers
The town of Noxapater will have an aldermen election for the 5 seats. Eight persons qualifed for the 5 aldermen seats. The top 5 vote getters of the 8 will be sworn in as aldermen.
Persons seeking the alderperson roles are:
Brian Burrage, Chris Wells, Lana Deese, Thomas Bartholomew, Terry Kelley, Jamie Yarbrough Ryals, Cliff Cremeen, and Cornest Hornesburger.
Noxapater Mayor Sammy Carter will remain in his position since he was the only one to qualify.
The general election will be Tuesday, June 8.
