Tuesday, foresters with the Mississippi Forestry Commission were set to begin a controlled burn on an area on the Natchez Trace right of way near the intersection of Rabun Road in French Camp, not far from the Town of French Camp, when they made a ghastly discovery.
According to Sheriff Brandon Busby, the foresters found the remains of a man that was in the advanced stages of decomposition. He said it’s believed the body had been there for two to three months.
Busby said foresters contacted the Choctaw County Sheriff’s Department and the department responded to the scene. He said after seeing the condition of the body, the department contacted the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation’s Crime Scene Unit.
“The unit sent off the body to the crime lab,” Busby said. Facebook posts believe it to be the body of Christopher McClellan, but Busby said they do not have a positive identification back yet and don’t yet know who it is.
Busby said the investigation is still ongoing at the moment. More information on the case will be released when it is available.
